Beau and Me
I've been an active nature photographer for about 7 years. Even though I still feel like an amateur in many ways, my friends have encouraged me to begin sharing, and possibly selling some of my prints, which is why I signed onto SmugMug.
Most of my training was received through participation in workshops hosted by Gerlach Nature Photography (gerlachnaturephoto.com) out of Macks Inn, ID and Bryan Hansel Photography (bryanhansel.com) out of Grand Marais, MN. They taught me how to use my camera, compose and edit photographs and motivated me to get off the couch and go outside. I can't thank them enough for opening up a whole new world for me.
Besides nature photography, the other major passion in my life are my dogs, more specifically, Pembroke Welsh Corgis. I still believe my first dog, Beau (2001-2013) taught me far more than I ever taught him. I miss him greatly. However, my heart started to heal when I adopted Dewey (2014).
My best advice for novices...as photographers we capture light reflecting off of whatever objects we choose to photograph. We don't take a picture of a tree. We take a picture of light reflecting off a tree. Want to take a better picture, be patient and wait for better light.
